The all new Zhiyun Crane 3 S gimbal was released today, March 20, 2020. This new gimbal is an upgrade of the previously released Crane 3, which was the first of its kind. Both the Crane 3 and the Crane 3S offer a handle dedicated for underslung shooting. The new Crane 3S has a few new features.
Zhiyun Crane 3S - Packed with New Features
One of the biggest new features of the Zhiyun Crane 3S is the increased payload. The Crane 3S has a payload of 6.5KG, or about 14.5 lbs. It is designed for larger camera setups such as modular cinema cameras.
Another great feature of the Zhiyun Crane 3S is the modular design. There are multiple, detachable handles for greater control of your set up. With the standard Easy Sling Handle, you get the security and comfort you need to last for long shoots, while extend the grip position. With the all new control handle, you can push and pull focus. The control handle also allows you to control the movement of the gimbal as well
The Crane 3S also has extendable arms allowing for larger setups. With the arm extension, you can add larger digital cinema cameras to the Crane 3S with ease.
Also on the Crane 3S, Zhiyun has incorporated a new axis locking system. This allows you much easier balancing and quicker set up times. Having the ability to lock of an axis while you are balancing is an absolute must with larger setups. Imagine trying to hold an almost 15 pound camera while trying to balance it. That would suck!! With the locking axis, you can focus on one axis at a time.
Cross Platform Compatibility
Compatibility with other platforms is paramount for a professional level gimbal. Because of this, Zhiyun has added 9 integrated mounting points to the Crane 3S allowing for a wide range of compatibility options. This will allow the gimbal to be attached to an Easy Rig, a fly cam rig, and many other options. When you couple this with the new PowerPlus Power pack, you can achieve amazing results. The PowerPack Plus can provide power to either the gimbal or the camera. It also provides more torque to the motors, allowing for faster movement for high speed action.
Zhiyun didn't stop here with the professional level features. Also included on the Zhiyun Crane 3S is support for the Transmount Image Transmission System. With an Image Transmitter mounted to the camera, and a receiver and control module mounted to a monitor, you are able to wirelessly control the whole unit!

All of these new features packed into one new gimbal is absolutely insane. The Crane 3S is priced where it needs to be in order to be successful. The Crane 3S starts at $650 for the S E model and $739 for the S. The Image Transmission system is a little pricey coming in around $600 for everything. However, that is nowhere near the $5,000 price point for a Teradeck system, which only transmits video.
