Canon EOS R5 Update | Specs CONFIRMED by Canon

It appears that the specifications that were leaked a few months ago by CanonRumors are, in fact, true! Canon has confirmed the specifications of the new EOS R5, set to release later this year. Here's what we've learned.

Canon EOS R5 Update: 8K Video Confirmed!

Probably the biggest news about the R5 is the fact that 8K internal recording has been confirmed. When the EOS R5 was announced, many people feared it was too good to be true. In our original post, we were also skeptical of the leaked R5 specs. Time and time again, Canon has released cameras with underwhelming specs. For instance, when the EOS R was announced, most people were upset with Canon. Frankly, they were justified. There really wasn't any good reason for Canon to cripple the camera with a 1.7x crop in 4K. It just didn't make any sense. After numerous rumors have circled online about Canon crippling the R5 in some capacity, Canon has responded. The new R5 will have 8K 30p video at the FULL SENSOR WIDTH. This is huge! As I stated in the original post about the R5, having 8K video in a handheld form factor will be a game changer!

Dual Pixel AF in 8K

Another Canon EOS R5 Update that was been confirmed after the leak happened was that the Dual Pixel Autofocus system would be disabled in the 8K modes. Canon has confirmed that the dual pixel system will be functional in all 8K modes. In conjunction with the Dual Pixel systems, the R5 will have a new Animal Autofocus System that will be able to recognize animal eyes. This is a new system for Canon so it will be interesting to see.

In-Body Image Stabilization

The R5 will be Canon's first mirrorless camera with in-body image stabilization. That alone is huge news! Canon also confirmed that the IBIS will work in conjunction with the image stabilization in the L series lenses. This will give users up to 8 stops of image stabilization! The EOS R5 is going to be a game changing camera. After Canon admitted they were behind in the mirrorless race, they seem to be going for gold now. Canon is not messing around with their new releases. Unfortunately, due to the global pandemic happening, the release of this camera could be delayed.
