The Ricoh R8 is a compact point-and-shoot camera centered on a 10MP, 1/2.3-inch sensor driven by the Smooth Imaging Engine III. It captures stills at up to 3648x2736 pixels with an ISO range spanning 64 to 1600, and features sensor-shift IBIS to help minimize blur during handheld use. Autofocus uses contrast detection with 1 focus point, and manual focus is also selectable.
The 2.7-inch TFT LCD at 460,000 dots handles framing and image review clearly. Color profiles for stills include Standard, Vivid, Black & White, and Sepia. Burst shooting is supported at 2.5 frames per second.
Video records at 640x480 at 30fps in 8-bit Standard color. Storage options include SD, SDHC, and internal storage. The body is built from metal and plastic, measures 102.0 x 58.3 x 26.1 mm, and weighs just 168g.
