The Sharp VL-Z7U Viewcam Z is a consumer MiniDV camcorder centered on a 1/4-inch sensor with 1.33 MP resolution and powered by Sharp's own Digital Video Processor. Video is captured at standard definition with a maximum frame rate of 30fps in 8-bit color, while still images can be saved at up to 1280 x 960 pixels with four color profile options: Standard, B&W, Sepia, and Negative. Storage is flexible, with support for both MiniDV tape and SD card media.
The 2.5-inch fixed LCD display handles all monitoring duties. A 3.5mm microphone jack and 3.5mm headphone jack support external audio input and monitoring, and USB connectivity is also included. Digital image stabilization is built in, and autofocus is managed via contrast detection across a single zone. The ISO range spans 100 to 400, and the internal lithium-ion battery delivers approximately 60 to 90 minutes per charge.
