The Sony HDC-5500 is a professional broadcast camera built for high-end live production and studio environments. Its 2/3-inch sensor delivers an effective resolution of 8.3 MP, outputting up to 3840 x 2160 (4K QFHD), processed through an LSI Digital Signal Processor. The camera captures video at 10-bit depth with color profiles including HDR (HLG), HDR (S-Log3), SR Live, ITU-R BT.2020, and ITU-R BT.709, offering flexibility for both SDR broadcast and HDR production pipelines.
Frame rate support spans 23.976fps through 120fps, covering the full range of broadcast and high-frame-rate production needs. The ISO range of 200–3200 is well-suited to controlled studio lighting. The body is constructed from magnesium alloy with carbon fiber-reinforced plastic panels, measuring 151 x 187 x 371 mm and weighing 5 kg.
It is powered externally via XLR 4-pin DC input (10.5–17V) at approximately 55W. Audio I/O includes an XLR 3-pin microphone jack and a 4-pole mini jack headphone output. The B4 mount enables use with a wide range of professional broadcast lenses.
An optional HD OLED or HD LCD viewfinder at 1920 x 1080 / 60Hz is available separately. Focus is manual only.
