Lens Overview — Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 SC
Key Features — Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 SC
40mm f/1.4 Aperture: A wide maximum aperture gives meaningful depth-of-field control and usable performance in lower light without additional hardware.
Single-Coating (SC) Design: Single-coating produces a rendering character — including flare and contrast — that differs noticeably from modern multi-coated lenses, a quality many photographers seek out intentionally.
Leica M Mount: Compatible with the full range of Leica M rangefinder bodies as well as mirrorless cameras using M-mount adapters.
Full-Frame Coverage: Designed to cover a full-frame image circle, making it suitable for both film and digital M-system bodies without vignetting concerns.
Manual Focus Only: Fully manual focus operation puts creative control directly in the photographer's hands, consistent with rangefinder shooting workflows.
Compact 175g Build: At 175g, the lens is light enough for all-day carry without adding meaningful bulk to a rangefinder kit.

Description — Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 SC
The Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 SC is a prime lens built for the Leica M mount, offering full-frame coverage in a compact, 175g body. Its f/1.4 maximum aperture makes it a strong performer when light is limited and gives photographers meaningful creative latitude when it comes to controlling what is and isn't in focus. Designed for the mirrorless Leica M camera system, this lens falls into the standard focal length range, making it a practical everyday option for a wide range of subjects and situations.
Focus is entirely manual, keeping the shooting experience deliberate and hands-on — consistent with the rangefinder tradition this lens is built for. There is no image stabilization, so a steady hand or stable surface is important, especially when shooting wide open. The 43mm filter thread accommodates a smaller-than-typical filter diameter, so photographers should verify accessory compatibility in advance.
Lightweight, purposeful, and built around a classic focal length, this lens appeals to photographers who value tactile control and a distinctive optical character.
